Book Sale at Sainsbury

A book sale event was held at Sainsbury store Bridgend on 27/11/2013. Members of the public met members of the team and a total of £640 was raised.


'Discover Dogs'

£2,400 was raised in book sales of A Hero's Tail at the 'Discover Dogs' Event in Earls Court, London. Actor Anthony Head, a Wood Green supporter was on hand to assist with sales and sign copies of 'A Hero's Tail'


Cheque Awarded

Following recent sales of the book 'A Hero's Tail', a cheque for £626.25 has ben presented by Wood Green.


Signed Rugby Shirt Won

The competition for the signed rugby shirt, held at the Open Day event, was won by Graham Hutton.


'Specialist Operations' Open Day

The Open Day was held on 8th September 2013 at Cardiff Castle, featuring the launch of the book 'A Hero's Tail' with signings by the author John Gaye.

The 'Specialist Operations' Division is that part of South Wales Police that includes such departments as the Dog & Mounted Section, the Force Helicopter, Roads Policing, Firearms, Specialist Search (previously the underwater search unit) that operate across the whole of the force area.


Luke Gamble, founder of Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) charity

Luke Gamble

Vet Luke Gamble graduated from Bristol University in 1999 and spent a year as Clinical Scholar in large animal medicine and surgery at Cambridge University.

He is primarily a mixed practice vet and based in his New Forest surgery, Pilgrims Veterinary Practice, and ran an emergency OOH service for animals, covering 28 practices in Bournemouth and Poole for eight years.

In 2003 he founded WVS, which to date has raised over a million pounds to support projects around the world.

Luke has also starred in two series of Vet Adventures on Sky1, and is the founder and director of pet travel companies in the UK and South Africa.

His current adventure involves working with Dogs Trust and travelling across India in a 27 tonne adapted lorry to vaccinate dogs against rabies.

About 'A Hero's Tail' Luke says "I really admire the police officers for taking the initiative and raising money themselves, to improve the facilities for their dogs and horses. It shows real dedication to the animals and I am delighted to support such a worthy cause."
